KDP Page Count Limit Checker
Enter your page count and ink type to check whether your manuscript falls within KDP's allowed range before you try to upload it.
Page limits by ink type
| Ink type | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Black ink (cream or white paper) | 24 pages | 828 pages |
| Premium color ink | 24 pages | 828 pages |
| Standard color ink | 72 pages | 600 pages |
These are amazon.com limits. If you're publishing to amazon.com.au, the black ink fixed-cost tier caps slightly lower (108 pages instead of 110) before the per-page rate kicks in, though the overall minimum and maximum stay the same.
Common questions
What's the minimum page count for a KDP paperback?
24 pages for black ink and premium color ink. Standard color ink has a higher minimum of 72 pages.
What's the maximum page count for a KDP paperback?
828 pages for black ink and premium color ink. Standard color ink tops out lower, at 600 pages.
Why does standard color ink have a different range than premium color?
They're distinct print options with their own cost structures and limits, even though both are technically "color." Standard color's range, 72-600 pages, is narrower on both ends than premium color's 24-828.
What happens if my manuscript is outside the limit?
KDP rejects the file at upload. Under the minimum, you'll need to add content or adjust formatting to gain pages, or switch to a format with a lower minimum. Over the maximum, you'll likely need to split the book into multiple volumes.
Why this matters
Finding out your book is outside the page limit after you've already formatted the whole interior is a frustrating way to lose an afternoon. Standard color's 72-page minimum catches people the most, since it's easy to assume all color options share the same range as premium color.
If you're formatting the interior yourself, KDP Workspace's free Interior Assembler shows your final page count as part of assembly, so you catch a limit problem before you're done, not after.
