Should I use KDP's auto-converted prices?
Not without checking them first. The conversion doesn't account for each marketplace's different printing costs or royalty thresholds, so the resulting royalty can be quietly poorly calibrated.
Does KDP have different royalty rates by country?
The 50%/60% split exists everywhere, but the exact price threshold for the higher tier is different in each currency, and printing costs are set separately per marketplace too.
Why is my UK or EU royalty lower than expected?
Usually the auto-converted price landed below that marketplace's 60% threshold, or printing costs there are higher relative to price than in the US. Check the specific numbers for that marketplace rather than assuming the same math.
Why this matters
It's easy to set a US price once, let KDP handle the rest, and never look at the other marketplaces again. But the royalty math is genuinely separate in each one, a price that works well in the US can be a quiet underperformer somewhere else without ever showing up unless you check.
